Chrissy Teigen Just Mastered the Popular Mob Wife Style

The model has adopted the trending look, and no one has done it better.

The news is all over your social media feeds: the mob wife aesthetic is in. It’s been on the rise for months now, but a trending TikTok on Jan. 6 has made it the veritable talk of the town. Everyone may not be doing it—yet—but just about everyone is chatting about it. We thought we’d join in on the discourse.

If you’re not on the typical platforms that have been spinning this trending style and, thus, have no clue what we’re talking about, don’t fret. We’re here to explain the rules—with the help of a TikTok from October, of course.

What is the mob wife aesthetic?

First, you’ll need a black base, according to @thesweetpaisana, or “Mob Wife Aesthetic CEO,” as she refers to herself on TikTok. “If you can add some leather in there, even better,” she said of the first layer. “If you look like you’re going to a funeral, you know you’re doing it right.”

The next step, while perhaps harder to achieve, is integral to the look. It requires digging through your mom’s closet to find a fur jacket from the 1980s, or “the golden era of the mob,” as the TikToker called it.

To the layered look, add multiple pieces of gold jewelry. While any works, it’s ideal “if these gifts were given to you as an anniversary or birthday present.”

Tie up your hair into a voluminous top knot (“in order to adequately show off the jewelry”), and throw on a pair of oversized sunglasses “that look like you’ve had them since 2003—because you probably have.” Round out the look with a designer bag, one “preferably [from] an Italian designer.”

O.K., so now that you’ve gotten the picture, we’re going to show you perhaps the best example of the style we’ve seen to date.

Frankly Chrissy Teigen nailed it—it’s as though she was following @thesweetpaisana’s instructions to a tee. The American model paired her black leather jacket—the perfect base—with floral knit gloves (what screams “mob wife” like a pair of gloves?) and a black Chanel purse. She gave her hair some more body with the help of a black plastic headband that showed off her oversized hoops—the perfect combo.

With a touch of gold jewelry and some added fur somewhere in there, Teigen would be a force to be reckoned with among mob wives.
