If we were defending the statement “You can never go wrong with a little black dress!” in fashion court (which, as you know, is a very real thing), Sydney Sweeney’s latest look would be our “Exhibit A.”

It’s no secret that we’ve been enjoying the actress’s red carpet fashion as of late, with her and her longtime stylist Molly Dickson knocking it out of the park on every outing. Sweeney’s event-ready looks have ranged from snow angel chic to vintage grunge gorgeousness over the last few months alone; however, few ensembles have embodied “effortlessly chic” style as completely as the outfit she sported for the Variety & Golden Globes Pre-Golden Globes Party this week.

Styling & glam

On Friday, Jan. 10, Sweeney walked the red carpet for the prelude celebration to Sunday’s main event, wearing a classic little black dress. The garment was small but mighty, proving that this night-out staple is anything but boring.

The mini dress was crafted with a luxe-looking, satin-like fabric. The hem sat at the top of the actress’s legs, while the subtle ruching detail up the sides made for a figure-hugging final silhouette. The single sleeve—comprising gathered fabric on her shoulder—resulted in a unique, asymmetrical design, drawing the eye up to her daring neckline before scooping down into a flattering U-shape.

Sweeney kept her accessories to a minimum so the mini dress could truly shine, opting for a pair of black peep-toe heels and some sparkle in the form of stacked silver rings. Her makeup for the evening appeared to take its lead from her accessory choices, as well. She kept her glam looking effortless with matte skin, lined eyes and a nude lip.

Another fun switch-up was her hair, as the actress has been alternating between a dramatic bob cut and long, flowing extensions recently when styling her signature blonde tresses. She went with the former look for her night out in Beverly Hills, a choice that further accentuated the striking bare neckline of the mini dress.

Getting award show-ready

The Golden Globes will be airing live this Sunday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with comedian Nikki Glaser returning as the event’s host after her standout performance during last year’s ceremony.

Sweeney will be one of the many stars in attendance to celebrate the incredible films and TV of 2025—and of course, we’ll be tuned in for all of the radiant red carpet looks. After all, if they’re anything like this little black dress, we’re in for one seriously fashion-forward night.
