Here’s Why You Should Use a Neutral Lip Liner With a Red Lipstick, According to Jennifer Lopez

The actress has mastered the festive red lip. Here’s how she does it.

Jennifer Lopez and two lip products.

If Jennifer Lopez has anything to say about it, you absolutely can’t complete a red lip look without the addition of a neutral lip liner. According to the star, some people make the mistake of pairing a red lip liner with their red lipstick.

Lopez, on the other hand, swears by pairing a neutral lip liner with her vibrant red lipstick. “I don’t love a red lip liner. I like it to be neutral,” she said. “It makes the lips look fuller and plumper.

In a recent Instagram tutorial, she demonstrated how she achieves a festive red lip. She began by applying the neutral liner to the edges of her upper and lower lip. Then she went in with the red lipstick and applied it to the middle of her lips. She then used a small brush to detail the corners. “I always draw a little bit bigger” than her lips, she explained, in order to make them appear even fuller.

While not the exact products that Lopez used, the following lip liner and lipstick come highly recommended by some of the best in the business.
