Sabrina Carpenter took over Studio 8H over the weekend, as the 26-year-old hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live for the show's third episode of Season 51.

The singer-songwriter, who secured a trio of MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in September, returned to the longtime NBC franchise following a brief appearance in Quinta Brunson’s monologue in May and an appearance on the show’s 50th Anniversary special in February. Carpenter was also previously featured as a musical guest in the spring of 2024, though Saturday marked the artist’s debut hosting gig on the program.

However, in tangent with the on-screen milestone, what seemed to steal the show for fans was actually when the artist had a microphone in hand. Throughout the night, Carpenter hit the stage for two songs from her most-recent album, Man's Best Friend, which was released on Aug. 29. In addition to her songNobody's Son,” the artist also sang “Manchild,” a tune that premiered as the debut single off of the 12-song track list.

Fans raved over the nostalgia-induced performance, as Carpenter sang into a hairbrush-style microphone on a set that resembled a feminine bedroom. The two-time Grammy Award winner belted on the bed in a comfy butter yellow tee that read “LIVE FROM NEW YORK” paired with pastel pink undies that finished the show's popular phrase, “IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT.”

Carpenter shared a clip from the show to her 41.1 million Instagram followers after the festivities ensued, and deemed her time on set the “most fun performance of manchild I’ve gotten to do so far” in its caption. Her fans seemed to agree, as they bonded about pop culture moments that sparked from the artist’s playful, retro aesthetic.

“this was giving opening scene of [the 1986 film] Crossroads in the best way omg,” content creator Tyler Conray commented. “this felt like such a beautiful homage even down to the bedding color,” he continued. “It was like a combo of crossroads with the lizzie mcguire movie [2003] “tide is high” opening scene.”

“reminds me of the cameron diaz scene from charlie’s angels 🤭🔥,” another fan added.

Carpenter also channeled her acting background—the artist spent three seasons on the Disney Channel show, Girl Meets World, starting in 2014, among other on-screen stints—as she demonstrated her skills in a number of sketches on the late-night show.

Next up on Saturday Night Live, Miles Teller hits the stage on Nov. 1, with Brandi Carlile as the musical guest.
