Katie and Denise Austin Share Their Motivation for Coaching, Grace the Latest Cover of ‘Women’s Health’
In many ways, you could say Katie Austin followed in her mother’s footsteps when she launched her fitness platform. But, likewise, there are many ways in which the younger Austin has taken her mother’s guidance and created her own path in the realm of exercise. While Denise Austin was the face of Pilates and fitness programs on TV, Katie has founded a versatile on-demand program based in strength training.
Their professional fitness journeys have differed to be sure, but there is one principle throughout the whole that they will always agree on. The pair graced the cover of the latest issue of Women’s Health, taking the chance to talk all things fitness, their journey together and apart, and what motivates them. It is in their motivation that the mother and daughter duo agree wholeheartedly with one another. According to Women’s Heath, their work has been centered around “help[ing] women fall in love with movement and live happier, healthier lives.”
The magazine gave the pair the chance to talk through their journeys in their own words, and the resulting dialogue was a testament to their similarities and their differences—and the ties that draw them both together. According to Katie, the plentitude of time spent with her mother has not rubbed off on her style of fitness. Though they do much together, working out has never really been one of their joint activities. As a result, their methods differ. “We sometimes have a similar style, but for the most part, we’re really different in how we move,” Katie said.
“I’m more old-school and ‘rah-rah, you can do it!’” Denise added. “You’re a little more controlled. You like things steady and perfect. I’m a little more wild.”
But despite the disparities, it all comes back to encouraging others to move. And they both do it with their own brands of distinct, but lovable enthusiasm.
