Musician Yumi Nu Makes a Splash With 2023 SI Swimsuit Photo Shoot in Dominica
Yumi Nu returned for her third SI Swimsuit feature this year and was photographed by Amanda Pratt in Dominica. She made history last April as the first plus-size model to be featured on the cover of Vogue Japan.
The model-musician, who is of Japanese and Dutch descent, made her SI Swimsuit debut in 2021 and landed the cover the following year after her feature with James Macari in Montenegro.
“Shooting with a female photographer has been incredible,” the Blueki clothing brand founder said while on location this year. “Woman-to-woman, you feel more comfortable to be vulnerable and try things, and there’s just an understanding. Amanda really gets in the shot with you and gets in the water and gets down in the fishnet, she will do whatever it takes for the shot and for me, as a model, that means so much because it makes me motivated to get the shot.
“I hope when young girls see my images, they see someone who can be confident at any size. You don’t have to [fit] a specific beauty standard to be happy or wear little bikinis. Anything is possible.”
