‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 Episode 6 Live Recap: Performances and an Elimination

Hold on tight, spider monkeys, it’s time for another episode of The Masked Singer.
The competition continued Wednesday, Feb. 11, as the collection of intricately masked celebrity performers hit the stage once again to tease the detectives—Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora—with their true identities. And for the latest episode, the contestants tackled a spooky, millennial-friendly theme.
Last week’s emotional elimination
Last week, the show celebrated America’s 250th birthday, and also introduced the last Wild Card contestant of the season: Pangolin. The returning masked singers included High Voltage, Calla Lilly, Eggplant and Owl, plus the aforementioned Wild Card entrant. When it came time for the elimination announcement, Calla Lilly was revealed to be the one going home, and the detectives closed their cases with their final guesses.
Ora applauded the celeb’s bravery, believing they were Selma Blair. Meanwhile, Jeong thought they might be Christina Applegate. Thicke guessed Danielle Fishel, while McCarthy Wahlberg confidently stated they were Teddi Mellencamp, based on several clues pointing to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. As it turned out upon their unmasking, McCarthy Wahlberg had every reason to feel confident, as they were indeed Teddi Mellencamp.
After host Nick Cannon asked Mellencamp what it meant for her to appear on the program, she said, “It means so much because two weeks ago, I didn’t think I was going to be strong enough to do it.” She went on, adding, “Being able to be out here with all of you guys and do this, and feel strong and feel good, is amazing.”
Mellencamp, who said she’d been diagnosed with stage four melanoma, also shared a health update with the audience, saying that, at her last appointment, they said there was “no current trace of cancer.” The audience and detectives celebrated with the star, who sang her father, John Cougar Mellencamp’s, hit song “Jack & Diane” to end the episode.
This week’s theme
As noted above, this week sees the masked singers tackling a theme near and dear to the hearts of many millennials (and vampires) everywhere: the Twilight Saga.
This time around, the returning group of unidentified celebs only features four contestants total, including Cat Witch (whose true identity we already know to be Kylie Cantrall, thanks to a new part of this year’s competition, where one contestant was revealed to the audience—but not the detectives—ahead of time), as well as 14 Karat Carrot, Stingray and Owl.
Cat Witch
After the opening performance, the spooky feline contestant took the stage with their rendition of “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars. During their preroll footage, they stayed on theme, comparing their past “relationships” to Edward and Jacob, as they were once torn between two choices themselves. Their clues also included a blimp, which McCarthy Wahlberg took as a reference to the Kid’s Choice Awards.
After the performance, the remaining clue was delivered via a Valentine. Inside Cat Witch’s heart-shaped box was filled with chocolate shaped like a turkey. McCarthy Wahlberg noted she wanted to “double down” on her guess from last time, believing they were Victoria Justice. Meanwhile, Jeong thought they might be Zendaya. Ora guessed Hailee Steinfeld, but McCarthy Wahlberg reminded her that Steinfeld is currently pregnant.
14 Karat Carrot
Performing a version of “Tainted Love” by Gloria Jones, the vibrant veggie contestant’s preroll footage was equally relationship-focused, telling the tale of their love story with their partner. While they said they didn’t always agree, the mystery celeb eventually won them over with their voice. The detectives also caught that a clue shown in the clip seemed to point to them being an Image Award winner.
Thicke was immediately confident he knew who they might be, adding, “They’re one of my favorite artists.” 14 Karat Carrot’s Valentine revealed a chocolate star resembling one from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jeong guessed first, claiming they might be Lionel Richie. McCarthy Wahlberg guessed Jermaine Jackson, while Thicke believed they were Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers.
Stingray
Next up was the sensational sea creature contestant, who sang “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran. They told the story of their proposal during their preroll footage, which involved a terrifying, tarantula-related interruption. The detectives also spotted a witch hat in the background, wondering if it might be a hint about the musical Wicked.
Stingray’s Valentine clue was empty, causing confusion among the detectives—until a phone rang, and a message played from their significant other (whose voice was also distorted to hide their identity). After the clue, McCarthy Wahlberg guessed Jordan Fisher, resulting in an excited cheer from the audience. Jeong, however, thought they might be Joey McIntyre, which got the exact opposite reaction from the crowd. Ora put together that a lot of the clues in the preroll footage might actually connect the singer to Cat Witch, believing they were Jason Derulo.
Owl
Last but never least to the stage was the show’s nocturnal, neon contestant performing “White Wedding” by Billy Idol. Like the others, their preroll footage focused on their relationship, humorously noting that their partner actually enjoys “bird watching” as a hobby in real life. Ora was also quick to catch a clue that appeared to point to a doctor’s office in the background.
Jeong declared that Owl was clearly an “icon,” and their Valentine’s Day clue was also a call from their significant other, whose voice had a clear accent, even when distorted. Thicke initially guessed they might be Dennis Quaid, but also thought they might be Walton Goggins. Meanwhile, McCarthy Wahlberg believed they were Ted Danson based on the doctor-related hint, while Jeong guessed they were Woody Harrelson.
Who was eliminated?
After the votes were all cast, Cat Witch and 14 Karat Carrot were revealed to be safe, leaving Stingray and Owl to compete in the “Vampire Royale.” This meant the two had to compete in a sing-off, where both performed the chorus of “Love Is a Battlefield” by Pat Benatar.
After the “Vampire Royale,” the detectives made their final decision, and the mystery celebrity eliminated during Week 6 was Owl. After their unmasking, Owl was revealed to be Billy Ray Cyrus, which none of the detectives guessed at any point in the season.
When is the next episode?
The next episode of The Masked Singer airs on FOX on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. ET, and we’ll be right back here to recap everything live for you!
