We know what Sarah Michelle Gellar did this summer—but not in a creepy way. She literally just posted about it.

Be warned: there are spoilers ahead for I Know What You Did Last Summer!

The beloved actress pulled off a massive surprise in July when it was revealed she had a cameo in the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer after denying it for months. Whenever she was asked about her potential involvement in the lead-up to the horror film’s release, the star always responded by simply saying that her character from the original 1996 movie was “dead” and thus unable to return—and now she’s sharing how the filmmakers found a way around that.

In a recent 17-photo carousel posted to Instagram, Gellar shared some brand-new behind the scenes pictures taken during her time on set, which she of course couldn’t have posted previously for fear of ruining the surprise. “Spoiler alert ‼️ Helen Shivers is still dead,” she joked in the caption. She then added, “I still can’t believe we were able to keep [this] a secret.”

In the cover image of the photo drop, Gellar proved that she’s absolutely ageless, smiling and posing in a cream-colored gown and sparkling tiara beside a framed photo of herself taken from the first film.

Other never-before-seen snapshots in the set showed the actress modeling beside some nightmare-inducing mannequins, laughing with her new castmates, some close-ups of her costume and even a couple of throwback photos featuring the original cast.

In the reboot, Gellar’s character from the original film appears as part of a dream sequence taking place in the head of Madelyn Cline’s character. While Gellar’s character is perfectly fine to begin the sequence, things quickly unravel, with her character decomposing before the audience’s eyes.

And Gellar recently revealed to Variety that this cameo wasn’t by any means a spur-of-the-moment decision, but was instead something director and writer Jenn Robinson had been ruminating on for literal years—yes, years—while prepping for the reboot.

“Jenn Robinson brought it up to me like three or four years ago—this has been a long process—I thought, ‘It’s such a good idea, but you don’t know. Do people still love the movie? Do people still watch the movie?’” Gellar told the outlet. “Jenn kept saying from the beginning to me, ‘You have to do something. And I said, ‘I’m dead. I’m dead. This isn’t supernatural.’ She was like, ‘I’m gonna figure it out.’ And she did, and it was brilliant.”

In the words of Gellar herself: “Long live dead Helen Shivers, the O.G. Croaker Queen!”
