BUCI Staged Its First Ever Runway Show Just Ahead of New York Fashion Week
BUCI, the made-in-New York womenswear label, made its debut appearance at New York Fashion Week this year. Launched just three years ago by Parsons student Mishka Ivanovic, the brand is now making waves in the industry for both its timeless designs and ethical approach to fashion.
Committed to changing the fashion industry for the better, the brand uses all New York based-factories that pay workers over $15 an hour (which is especially noteworthy in an industry that has been known to source cheap labor often at the expense of those producing the clothing) while also using sustainably sourced materials, including organic cotton as well as deadstock and repurposed fabrics.
The brand’s first ever see-now-buy-now runway show took place on Thursday Sept. 7, at the Prospect Park Boathouse and was dreamlike. The brand shared that the BUCI fall-winter ’23 and resort ’24 collections were an exploration to find the balance between chic, comfortable and little provocative, with the BUCI girl falling somewhere in the middle.
With a harpist playing under a billowing awning and BUCI hand fans decorating the rows of guests, the previewed collection was thoughtful and beautiful. Silk chiffon, sheer details and lace were just a few of the striking details from the collection. Below, we highlighted some of the standout looks that we cannot stop thinking about.
BUCI has mastered asymmetrical draping.
The movement of the Della Top ($425) and Swoosh Skirt ($495) is stunning.
This is the perfect little black dress.
