There are two ways to do New Year’s Eve. The obvious and popular option is a festive night out at your favorite restaurant or bar or a fun house party. The perhaps less talked about, but equally enjoyable choice is to stay in and have a cozy night at home with friends and family by your side.

That’s exactly what professional soccer player Abby Dahlkemper opted for on Sunday night. Rather than dressing up and hitting the town, the athlete chose to stay right at home alongside her husband, former pro soccer player Aaron Schoenfeld, a couple of friends and her sweet pups.

The quiet night in involved exactly what you might expect: a delicious home-cooked meal, time spent with the dogs and a cozy movie watch party on the couch (in this case, Scary Movie 3 for Dahlkemper and her crew).

“NYE was lit!” the 30-year-old joked in the caption of her Instagram recap of the evening.

“🔥 Crew,” a friend wrote in the comments.

“✨️...a little NYE charcuterie...and then 🥩😋😉👍,” one follower approved of the food lineup.

“Idk who's cooking those steaks, but I need one please 👀,” another agreed.

The group may have opted for a more casual New Year’s Eve plan, but that didn’t make it any less of a celebration. In fact, we don’t think any wild night can beat one spent with family, friends and food. All that is to say, Dahlkemper did it right.
