Last week’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise ended on an awkward note for the remaining contestants, as a couple decided to self-eliminate—and shade everyone else in the process. Going into tonight’s episode, we were sure of one inevitable thing: emotions would be heightened as more cast members are sent home.

We’re getting close to the Season 10 finale, and not every couple will make it out together.

As always, there’s a lot on the line in the new episode of Bachelor in Paradise Season 10, especially now that the winning couple could go home with half a million dollars. We recapped the new episode live right here.

Live recap

Week 8 opens up with Hannah huddling with the women to see how they’re feeling at this point in the season. Kat is adamant that she won’t be getting engaged because of her last experience on Paradise, while Alexe shares how strong her connection is with Andrew. Bailey shares her surprise at how far she and Jeremy have come, while Jess only has great things to say about Spencer. But she also admits to feeling the pressure to move on to the next step.

Jesse then has great news for the full group: they’ll be having a romantic dinner beachside that night. And just as a swarm of bugs appears that won’t stop bothering the contestants, they learn that their next challenge, “Welcome to the Jungle,” will involve camping overnight. Some are excited for the task, while others seriously dread it. But what they don’t know right now is that this is actually a relationship test.

The couples have to build their own campsites with a number of nuisances getting in their way—yes, including bugs. Couples therapy expert Dr. Berman helps coordinate the test as she observes and takes notes of the contestants’ bonds.

Unfortunately, Kat starts to have a meltdown over the bugs, and Dale doesn’t know how to help her—at least, not at first. He eventually figures out a way to calm her down, which makes her feel very safe.

Camping reminds Keith of his family and he begins to grow homesick, confiding in Kathy in how he’s feeling.

After their campfire evening, Jesse spills the big reveal: they were actually on a relationship test, and Dr. B has evaluated their connections. The cast members are surprised by her observations, seemingly getting defensive over their bonds. Ultimately, she chooses Kat and Dale as the winners of the challenge, who are, in turn, provided immunity this week.

Dale and Kat also go on a scenic beach date where they open up to one another about their feelings. They’re both very confident about their relationship, and Kat admits in her confessional that her fear has disappeared.

Jess and Spencer discuss their future together, and it becomes evident that Spencer wants to move faster than Jess does, including moving in and having kids. Jess expresses her uneasiness about moving in together, and Spencer seems discouraged. In her confessional, she admits she isn’t sure she’s in love yet.

Later on, fortunately, Spencer makes Jess feel better by assuring her that he will slow down and consider her timeline, too. Meanwhile, Alexe opens up to Andrew about how she’s feeling about him, noting that saying the “L” word is difficult for her. Andrew is very understanding, and they take the next big step—they both admit to falling in love with each other.

At the cocktail party, contestants confide in who might be going home, while Keith is back and forth on whether he actually wants to leave or not.

The rose ceremony

After everyone votes, the men are called on to give out their roses. But the contestants are surprised when Jesse shares that there is a tie. Dale is tasked with making the final decision after winning the relationship test with Kat, and ultimately, he chooses Jonathon to go home.

Of course, with Jonathon eliminated, that means Lea is sent home tonight, too. Here are the rose ceremony pairings for this week:

  • Dale and Kat
  • Andrew and Alexe
  • Spencer and Jess
  • Jeremy and Bailey
  • Keith and Kathy

Tonight’s episode continues for about 20 minutes after the rose ceremony, showing us the fallout the next day. The remaining contestants receive a cryptic letter from Jesse that they have trouble deciphering. But, as expected, they learn it’s time for their next relationship test. The note comes with a dagger, which raises eyebrows.

The group then embarks on the “Sharp Opinions” challenge, seeing the contestants choose the person who applies the most to each less-than-complimentary statement. That evening, during the cocktail party, they learn that Alexe and Andrew won the challenge, meaning they have immunity for the next rose ceremony. And the season is moving fast.

Jesse surprises everyone by announcing that four people will be going home at the next rose ceremony, as two women are voted off. With next week being the finale, there’s still a lot to unfold.

What happened last week

During Week 7, the contestants participated in a relationship test called “Treasure Hunt,” followed by Sean’s sketchy “parliament of Paradise” scheme. He decided to get sneaky in order to stay on the show longer alongside Allyshia, but it all totally backfired. No one appreciated Sean’s sneakiness, and even Allyshia became offended by it when she realized everyone had turned against him.

Ahead of the final rose being handed out, Allyshia shocked everyone at the end of the episode by announcing that she and Sean would be going home. “There are snakes in the grass, and I think it’s time to mow the lawn,” she confidently stated in her confessional before self-eliminating.

Parisa and Brian ended up being the couple eliminated last week.

We’ve made it to the final stretch of Bachelor in Paradise Season 10, as there is only one more episode left. The season finale will air next Tuesday, Sept. 2—with Labor Day impacting the regular release schedule—on ABC.
