Sydney Sweeney continues to prove she’s got talent across any genre, starring in comedies, dramas, horror films and more. This year is a particularly big one for the 27-year-old actress, starring in at least four films, including the already-released Echo Valley and the upcoming titles Eden, The Housemaid and the untitled Christy Martin biopic.

There’s no doubting Sweeney remains booked, busy and incredibly determined, and if recent reports are to be believed, she might be adding a major franchise to her already-stacked résumé. According to The Sun, the Washington native, who rose to fame through her role in HBO’s Euphoria, is the “top name” in the running to play a Bond girl in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming James Bond film.

“Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise,” a source tells the publication. “They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise.”

The Bond girl role has made an undeniable impact on pop culture over the years, with some of the most iconic including actresses Diana Rigg, Honor Blackman and Ursula Andress. For the most recent film series, Ana de Armas, Léa Seydoux, Eva Green and other familiar, talented faces served as Bond’s companions.

The resurgence of the franchise, which is now controlled by Amazon MGM Studios, has been a hot topic for years following Daniel Craig’s five-film series. And while many names are still being tossed around for the titular role, it was confirmed in June that Villeneuve, best known for movies like Dune, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, would be helming the next movie.

“Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls,” the insider also dished to The Sun, likely referencing her transformation to play boxer Christy Martin.

The publication also notes the fact that Sweeney was photographed chatting with Villeneuve at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and attended Jeff Bezos’s wedding to Lauren Sánchez this summer could be clues she’s at least being considered for a role in the movie.

Sweeney worked with former Bond girl Ana de Armas in the upcoming Ron Howard thriller Eden, meaning it’s always possible the Cuban-Spanish actress, who worked with Villeneuve on Blade Runner 2049, introduced the pair. At this point, all we have are rumors, but we’d be absolutely thrilled to see Sweeney cast as a Bond girl. It just makes sense.

As for the role of James Bond, Variety reported in June that Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi were on the list of potential actors, noting that the studio is interested in casting someone under 30 years old.

With a potential 2028 release window for the film, we’re sure to learn of castings sooner or later. Here’s to hoping Sweeney ends up on that list.
