If you’re anything like us, you’ve been counting down the hours to tonight’s New Heights podcast episode—and you’re also probably still pretty tired from being up so early on Tuesday morning to watch that glittery countdown clock.
And that’s all because this is how one Miss Taylor Swift decided to announce that she’s got a new album coming out titled The Life of a Showgirl. In a joint Instagram post, she revealed she’d share more information on this week’s episode of New Heights—the podcast of her boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce.
So with all of that in mind, here’s everything we learned about the upcoming album!

The lead-up to the episode
First things first: in the lead-up to the podcast episode on Wednesday afternoon, a new countdown clock appeared on Swift’s official website, this time counting down to the episode’s debut at 7 p.m. ET. The countdown clock was also accompanied by a single closed door shrouded in a ray of orange light—the very same door that appeared during The Eras Tour finale number of the final show.
As the countdown continued to tick down throughout the day, the door moved down the screen until it was eventually surrounded by four separate squares, each with locks on the front, each in a different color: orange, maroon, blue and silver, respectively.
Once the countdown reached its end, the website refreshed to reveal the cover art, as well as more information about the album. The podcast episode then became available to watch on YouTube, which was delightfully titled: “Taylor Swift on Reclaiming Her Masters, Wrapping The Eras Tour, and The Life of a Showgirl | NHTV”.
Everything we learned about The Life of a Showgirl
The album will be released on Oct. 3, and it was produced by Max Martin, Shellback and Taylor Swift—the same team behind many of Swift’s most popular tracks from her albums Red, 1989 and Reputation.
The track list will consist of 12 songs: “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Opalite,” “Father Figure,” “Eldest Daughter,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Actually Romantic,” “Wi$h Li$t,” “Wood,” “CANCELLED!,” “Honey” and “The Life of a Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter)”.
The album is also available in four different special editions, which account for the four colors depicted alongside the door on her website during the countdown. The editions are titled The Life of a Showgirl: Sweat and Vanilla Perfume Edition Limited Release Deluxe CD, The Life of a Showgirl: It's Frightening Edition Limited Release Deluxe CD, The Life of a Showgirl: It's Rapturous Edition Limited Release Deluxe CD and The Life of a Showgirl: It’s Beautiful Edition Limited Release Deluxe CD. These special editions will be available for purchase until Aug. 16 (or while supplies last!).
What the album is about
Swift noted that the album was “something she was working on while she was in Europe on The Eras Tour,” and—despite being “exhausted”—working on the album was what kept her “mentally stimulated.”
Swift also showed off the vinyl copy of the album, which was sparkling and orange. After being asked what the “significance” behind the color was, the superstar noted, “It feels like, energetically, how my life has felt. And this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
Speaking about working with Martin and Shellback as producers again, Swift also noted, “We’ve never made an album before where it’s just the three of us making a focused album. It felt like catching lightning in a bottle, honestly.” She also confirmed that, unlike her past albums, which included surprise songs or double albums, the 12 tracks are the only tracks coming for this era, outright stating: “There are no other songs coming.”
For Kelce’s part, he noted that—having heard the album himself—it’s “a lot more upbeat” than her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, and includes all “bangers.”
Needless to say, Oct. 3 can’t get here fast enough!
