Chloe Kim Shares Moving Message After Winning Silver at Milan Cortina Games

The 2026 Milan Cortina Games are officially underway, and members of Team USA already have plenty of reasons to celebrate.
This absolutely includes 25-year-old professional snowboarder Chloe Kim, who took home a silver medal this past Thursday, Feb. 12, in the women’s halfpipe. This second-place spot on the podium marks the third career medal for the Olympian, who previously won gold in the same category at both the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Games, becoming the first woman to take home two gold medals back-to-back in the halfpipe, per her official Team USA bio.
Following her performance, Kim took to Instagram on Friday, Feb. 13, to share a moving message with her 1.1 million Instagram followers. In the caption, she opened up about her journey back to the podium, and her headspace leading up to this year’s Games following a shoulder injury she sustained ahead of the competition.
Kim opens up about returning to the Olympics
In the cover shot of the three-photo carousel, the Olympian posed with a big smile, holding an American flag behind her. The second photo showcased a moment during her impressive halfpipe performance. Then, in the third, she posed with her fellow medalists: Mitsuki Ono of Japan, who won bronze, and Choi Gaon of South Korea, who took home gold.
“Such an honor to be part of this sport. I had so much fun last night and I hope you all enjoyed watching the progression of Women’s Halfpipe snowboarding!” Kim wrote in the post’s caption. “A month ago, I wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to compete. I was in the darkest space mentally and felt so much fear coming back. To land my run in my first final of the season was the most rewarding and validating thing I’ve ever experienced. ”
As noted above, Kim sustained an injury—specifically, a dislocated shoulder—during her second day of training in Switzerland after taking what the athlete herself described as “the silliest fall.” She went on in the caption of her post to applaud her fellow competitors and express gratitude for her placement, light-heartedly adding, “This medal means so much to me, and according to my color analysis, white metals make me look brightest!”
