Gigi Paris appears to have opened up about her breakup with her ex-boyfriend of four years, Glen Powell, and the effect the rumors swirling around him and co-star Sydney Sweeney had on her.

The 32-year-old model was a guest on the June 10 episode of the Too Much podcast hosted by Emma Klipstein, where, without outright naming any of the parties involved, she chatted about how the PR around Powell and Sweeney affected her relationship.

“According to the media, this wasn’t just a two-sided breakup, but three-sided,” Klipstein noted at the start of the interview. “And since then, there’s obviously been a lot said, but today we will hear from the one person who has not spoken about it: Gigi.”

For those out of the loop, Powell and Sweeney were—and still are—the center of romance rumors, with talk of a potential relationship between the two swirling around them since fans first saw their chemistry while promoting the 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You.

Klipstein also clarified that this conversation wasn’t simply a “breakup story,” but Paris’s own personal account of what it was like to watch her four-year-long relationship “unravel publicly” while seeing a narrative being “written for” her.

Paris started by sharing some backstory on how she and Powell met, noting a friend introduced them, and how quaranting through COVID together “accelerated” their relationship. Then “real life” began to open up again, and Powell’s success in Hollywood “skyrocketed.”

“I was so, so, so proud of him,” Paris said. “I had no idea what I was getting myself into because for so long it was a secluded version of that. And then when life opened up again, I was kind of thrown into the whole Hollywood world that I always lived adjacent to, but was never really in.”

Paris then detailed how everything started, saying she opened Instagram one day while Powell was away filming to see she’d been tagged in several posts about a caption Powell had written on a photo.

“I had two options: I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is [Paris] okay with this? What the f**k?’ Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not okay with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do. It wasn’t a way to, like, monetize the breakup; it wasn’t a way to twist the story around. Like, I was shattered [...] I was completely blindsided.”

“[Our relationship] wasn’t make-believe, and then it just seemed as though make-believe was more important than the real thing,” Paris continued. Later in the conversation, she expanded on this, adding, “Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that.’ That’s all that needed to be said. [And that wasn’t said,] never once.”

Toward the end of the interview, Klipstein asked Paris for her thoughts on the more recent rumors surrounding Powell and Sweeney, which began again after Sweeney broke up with her fiancé Jonathan Davino, saying, “It’s interesting [...] like I said, I hope that if they’re meant to be, that they’re meant to be. It’s really none of my business anymore.”

“It’s in the past and I’m ready to move forward and let it all go,” Paris concluded. Then, after Klipstein asked if she could go back in time and stand up for that version of herself publicly, what she would say, to which Paris answered, “I think I would just say, ‘I deserve better than this. Your person should have your back—that’s it.”
