Olivia Rodrigo’s breakout year was 2021. That year, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter released her debut single, Driver's License in January, and, just over four months later, dropped her first studio album SOUR. The 11-song soundtrack won two Grammy Awards—one for Best Pop Vocal Album and one for Best New Artist—while the debut ballad earned its own nod for Best Pop Solo Performance.

It’s officially been five years since the career-defining moment that kickstarted Rodrigo’s reign as a pop powerhouse, and she’s paying homage to the single and her first collection of songs this January.

Coupled with four frames posted to her 39.2 million Instagram followers, the artist announced, “SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i’m so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever.” In its first image, the signature violet cover art of the inaugural album was speckled with nine black and white images of Rodrigo next to Talking Heads founding member David Byrne.

“We’re starting off insanely strong with an incredible reworking of ‘drivers license’ from one of my all-time heroes, David Byrne,” Rodrigo’s caption continued. She gushed, “David is nothing short of a legend and I actually cried when I heard his version of this song. You can stream it now or pre order a 7 inch vinyl with his cover and our version of “Burning Down The House” from gov ball. I’m stoked!! Go give it a listen 💜🫶🏼”

In only a few hours on the app, fans have already flooded the artist’s comment section and shared their collective anticipation for more soon-to-be-released covers. Additionally, others suggested who they would like to see behind the mic.

“ALANIS MORISSETTE DOING BRUTAL PLEASE,” one commenter pleaded. Rodrigo has been a long-time fan of the 51-year-old artist. She previously said that her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill “reminds me what I’m trying to go after,” in a December interview with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“Oh my GOD I’m not ready for this line up 👏🔥😍 I AM SOPROUD OF YOU,” another user beamed.

“THIS IS INSANEEEE, can’t wait to hear all of the covers!” One fan agreed.

Plus, Rodrigo penned a special “birthday” message to the hit single that started it all, which was released exactly five years ago today, Jan. 8. She separately shared a slew of throwback snaps to Instagram to celebrate the occasion along with an ode to the ballad that “totally changed [her] life.”
