The winter blues don’t have a place in Olivia Rodrigo’s realm so long as she has this beloved album to keep her warm through it all.

In an exclusive clip shared by PEOPLE from the latest episode of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Music Makes Us podcast, the Grammy Award-winning artist divulged that her go-to musical masterpiece during moments of hardship or times when she desires to ground herself is none other than Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill.

“Honestly, I listen to Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill when I’m feeling, like, I don’t know what to say or like, who am I? For some reason, that album, just like every part of what makes a human being a human being, it feels like it’s encapsulated in that record,“ Rodrigo said. She also added, “I f---ing love that album as everyone on the planet does, but I just think it reminds me what I’m trying to go after.”

Jagged Little Pill is home to many classic tracks, including (but certainly not limited to) “Hand in My Pocket,“ “Head Over Feet” and “Ironic.” It received critical acclaim upon its release, with many praising Morissette’s moody yet vulnerable collection of songs. And the act of pouring her soul into her tracks was one of the aspects of the 1995 album that left Rodrigo feeling impressed not just as a person but as a fellow singer-songwriter.

“As a writer, that’s always like the most inspiring thing when you just feel like someone just needed to say something,” the 22-year-old pop rock princess stated. “They’re not just writing a song to make it go big or make people like it.”

During Rodrigo’s May 2022 show at The Greek Theatre on her SOUR tour, the “happier” singer got the special chance to bring her idol on stage and perform alongside her. Morissette gave the Los Angeles crowd a live listen to her smash hit song, “You Oughta Know.“

Rodrigo’s first official introduction to Jagged Little Pill was via Morissette’s “Perfect,” a tune that she said transformed her perspective on music.

“I remember hearing Alanis for the first time when I was about 13. I was in the car with my parents when Jagged Little Pill came on,” she shared. “I heard ‘Perfect,’ [and] I was like, ‘Oh, my God...you can write songs like that?’ I just looked at music and songwriting in a completely different way.”

In addition to Morissette, Rodrigo cites artists like Lorde, Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple as her musical inspirations.
