Making a masterpiece music video doesn’t come without its plights—something Sabrina Carpenter knows from first-hand experience.

The artist recently contributed to Vevo’s Footnotes series, where she and the minds behind her “Manchild” music video shared insight on the making of the visual. There, she revealed that—when she first approached planning the music video for the hit song—she had a plan to film over only a couple of days. However, as she was constantly coming up with new ideas for added scenes, the shoot ended up being extended to accommodate her ideas. Still, she probably didn’t expect to have such a large selection of unforgettable moments to choose from, nor did she expect so many outfit changes.

Editing the music video, the superstar revealed, turned out to be the “hardest thing.” “There was so much amazing footage and moments we couldn’t fit,” Carpenter told Vevo.

“The shoot was intended to be a two-day shoot, but ended up being a three-day shoot once I realized I wanted more scenes in it,” she continued. “It was 35 outfits total. My sister also hand-stitched ‘Manchild’ on my jean shorts.“

She went on to reveal which of her looks in the music video were her favorite: “I love and adore the red sequin dress from the bridge scene. But the whole video was built around the white tie-up shirt and jean shorts, which was the look that sparked the creative for me.”

The “Manchild” music video has garnered a whopping 111 million views (and counting) since its release. It also has over 60,000 comments from fans, speaking to how much conversation the unique visual has sparked—but her fans weren’t the only ones who felt this work of art was deserving of praise.

The music video was also nominated in the category of “Best Music Video” at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards: her first-ever nomination in the category. Other nominations Carpenter’s catchy tune received were “Record of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical)” and “Best Pop Solo Performance.”

To think that the final “Manchild” music video was just a sliver of what Carpenter filmed, yet still acquired so many Grammy nominations, is astonishing. It begs the question of whether the artist will ever release the never-before-seen clips sometime in the future. Only time will tell if a sequel or spin-off of the music video will be in the cards. Fingers crossed!
