Sydney Sweeney Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of ‘The Housemaid’ With Celebratory Photo Drop

Frieda McFadden’s 2022 thriller novel The Housemaid has officially hit the big screen. The film, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, was released in theaters today, Dec. 19, and one of its leading ladies rang in the feat with a plethora of behind the scenes snaps.
In a 20-slide carousel posted to her 25.7 million Instagram followers, Sweeney—who plays Millie Calloway, “a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester” (Sklenar), its trailer explains—showcased a series of candid snaps with her co-stars and McFadden herself, as the movie’s official Instagram account penned “happy housemaid day ❤️,” in her comment section.
The post’s cover slide was effortlessly on-brand for the thriller film, which shows Sweeney taking a bite of a pickle covered in fake blood. The consecutive frames, however, were a bit more wholesome. Sweeney shared a squeeze with Seyfriend and her 11-year-old costar, Indiana Elle, in slide 12, and displayed a note from McFadden dedicated to the actress, which read, “You are a perfect Millie!” on its 17th image.
At the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Monday, Dec. 15, Sweeney also gave a glimpse of what is in store for The Housemaid viewers. “It's fun. It's juicy, it's delicious. It brings all the different feels,” the actress gushed on the red carpet. “If you want to be able to go and have a good time, you're gonna be screaming at the screen, you're gonna be laughing, you're gonna be crying, like, there's so much that we give everybody.” She continued by calling the movie “a good emotional cleanse”, while wearing a plunging ivory gown and a statement red lip.

Although the film is just making its theater debut today, it has already racked up a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of publication. While Sweeney stars as its leading lady, her costar Seyfried garnered major attention from critics on the digital publication thus far.
Its critics consensus called the film, “a sly throwback to the lurid thrillers that used to dominate multiplexes,” and praises the film for “its wicked sense of fun and a delightfully unnerving performance from Amanda Seyfried.”
And if you haven’t read the novel yet, Seyfried suggests taking the following approach instead. “Do not read it until you’ve seen the movie,” the actress advised in an exclusive chat with Us Weekly. “Then it will ruin the twists for you.”
