Alysa Liu Reveals What She Keeps in Her Bag During ‘The Today Show’ Appearance

Alysa Liu stopped by The Today Show this week and updated fans on what she’s been up to post-Olympics.
The 20-year-old elite figure skater has been all over our feeds recently, and for good reason, as she took home two gold medals during the 2026 Milan Cortina Games last month. One was a team medal for short program performance, and the other was for her incredible free skate routine set to Donna Summer’s iconic tune “MacArthur Park.” The routine has since gone mega-viral, with reports even crediting the athlete with a resurgence in the song’s popularity, landing it at the top of the Billboard Dance Chart over four decades after its initial release.
Returning home a champion, Liu is currently making the rounds on various morning and late-night shows to celebrate her victory, most recently chatting with the aforementioned Today Show about everything from what she keeps in her bag to what she’s been “obsessing over” recently.
What does Liu keep in her bag?
The Olympian, who appeared on the show in her signature style—which can truly only be described as “cooler than we’ll ever be”—sported a pair of baggy cargo shorts, a Nike top and a coordinating blazer. Liu began the clip by showing off her on-trend, Y2K-friendly camo Von Dutch tote, which she noted she got from a thrift shop in Oakland.
The first two items she pulled out were, of course, her two gold medals (like, she flexed on us immediately, and we love her for it!). “I’ve got to have these on standby for today,” she said, holding them up with a smile. She then pulled out her adorable makeup pouch, a folding, reusable bag shaped like a strawberry and a matching strawberry-themed comb, the latter two of which she said she got from her fans. She also had plenty of water on hand, revealing she drinks approximately “three liters a day.”
Her wallet, a hand mirror, a camera, an SD card and a “Samsung Flip”—which she was given at the Olympics—were all at the bottom of the bag, the Olympian ending the video by sharing her love for hand creams, which she said she always has available and ready to use.
What has Liu been up to post-Olympics?
Still, a look inside her bag wasn’t the only sneak peek into her daily routine that Liu gifted fans via The Today Show this week. The Olympian also shared her “Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T.” with the outlet—i.e., what she’s currently reading, eating, playing, obsessing over, recommending and treating herself to.
And, when it came to her “recommending” something to others, her answer was a reflection of her experience at the Games. “I recommend connecting with the people around you more,” Liu said, adding, “My favorite connection was honestly with the other Team USA athletes. That was the first time I really crossed paths with them, so I met a ton of speed skaters and hockey players, and it was really fun to hang with them.”
