Jenna Ortega Merges Goth Glamour With Classic Hollywood Style for New Photo Shoot

Jenna Ortega delivered a captivating look for her latest feature with The Hollywood Reporter while posing alongside legendary film director Tim Burton.
In addition to the marvelous photo shoot, the two sat down with the outlet to talk about a wide array of topics, including the highly anticipated second season of their hit Netflix show Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the actress gave her 37.7 million Instagram followers a sneak peek at a few snapshots from her shoot. She began her post with an image of herself wearing a halter dress with fringes going down its length. Her hair was styled in a messy but chic updo that only further elevated the sophisticated yet edgy vibes of the shoot.
Her makeup gave delicate horror, an aesthetic that feels like Old Hollywood glamour meets Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The similarity was made further evident thanks to her thin eyebrows, pronounced cut-crease eyeshadow and her bold, dark lip.
Her second photo in this feature consisted of her donning a floor-length gown over a dark-colored garment. Black leather gloves tied in the goth aesthetic even further, being the perfect accessory to add some dimension and finesse to the ensemble. Sitting nearby—and also serving up some major looks—was Burton, who wore a classic trench coat over his dapper shirt and pants duo. With this attire, the iconic director proved that Chelsea boots are always a fashionable choice in menswear.
This somewhat eccentric aesthetic is something both Ortega and Burton cherish greatly. This commonality can be seen in all facets of their respective perspectives, especially when it comes to the way they view the character of Wednesday Addams as the ideal horror entity to explore at length.
“I’ve never done television, so it was the idea of exploring something on a longer time frame, and she’s an interesting character,” Burton explained. “As much as a middle-aged man could feel like a teenage Wednesday Addams, I feel those things. And she’s a character that’s all about being subtle because she doesn’t really have a huge range of emotions.“
Adding to his point, the 22-year-old actress stated, “She’s also one of the few protagonists who is able to get away with that—aside from villains, who tend not to have emotional growth or depth.”
Chatting about what excited him when it came to bringing back the distinguished Addams Family figure, Burton added, “You can become a lot of different things as an actor. But for Wednesday, you have to have it. I don’t mean that she’s dark. You need this weird internal strength and clarity because you can’t manufacture it. Jenna’s like a silent movie actor, and what I enjoy about her character is not so much the [dialogue] but the way she presents herself.”
When asked about the ways Burton leaves Ortega feeling inspired, the actress also touched on how the Emmy-winning producer’s way of doing things makes her more confident in herself and her acting choices.
“When I initially started working with him, I would ask him for notes and critiques. He wouldn’t give any. It’s not because he wasn’t trying to be helpful, but he was allowing me the space to find what was going to work for me,” Ortega noted. “It created a greater confidence in myself. I think he really brings out the best in people and allows them to think out of the box, so you want to get weirder and weirder with it. It’s such a joy when someone brings that out of you.“
