Sydney Sweeney Is Unrecognizable in Bold Retro Looks for ‘W Magazine’ Cover

Sydney Sweeney is constantly serving major range, on and off screen. The actress just debuted a dazzling new editorial for W Magazine’s summer issue, and it’s one of her boldest fashion transformations yet. Titled “Sydney Sweeney Is In a League of Her Own,” the cover story explores the actress’s unapologetic approach to her career, reflected in every daring, era-spanning outfit from the shoot.
In the cover image, photographed by Carlijn Jacobs and styled by Allia Alliata di Montereale, the 27-year-old rocked a silky blue slip dress with a whimsical cone bra insert, a voluminous bump-it style updo and a “Golden Girl” sash that nods to old-school pageant glam with an ironic twist.
Other standout looks include a head-to-toe Fendi trench coat ensemble, a dramatic backless red Balenciaga satin mini paired with thigh-high black socks and stilettos (in which she confidently poses with one foot on a soccer ball) and a groovy ’70s floral number. There’s also a moody, modern take on a Little Red Riding Hood–inspired red knit look, showing off Sweeney’s ability to jump between hyper-feminine and fashion-forward aesthetics with ease.
“In general, if something scares me, then usually I’m going to do it, because that means I’m challenging myself,” the Washington native told W. “But I do have really bad stage fright... I give enormous credit to anybody who does theater or live talk shows.”
Fearless as ever, she added that nudity is never what makes her nervous. “I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well.”
Best known for breakout roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Handmaid’s Tale, Sweeney is showing no signs of slowing down. She recently wrapped filming on The Housemaid and the Christy Martin biopic and stars in Echo Valley—out June 13 on Apple TV+—alongside Julianne Moore and Domhnall Gleeson.
She’s also producing and starring in I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl under her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films.
