Emily DiDonato Reveals How a Missed Flight Led Her to Her Soulmate

The model and mom of two took to Instagram to reflect upon a chance encounter in which she met her now husband.

Emily DiDonato is reminding her 2.8 million Instagram followers that a chance meeting on an airplane led to a lifetime of happiness, and we’re totally here for the romantic retelling.

The 34-year-old model hopped on the bandwagon of a recent viral moment to share her story. If you’re chronically online, there’s no doubt you’ve seen the “It’s very important” trend taking over TikTok and Instagram. The viral trend is being used to showcase pivotal moments in creator’s lives, in which they accepted the job, went on the date or otherwise said “yes” to something that ultimately changed the trajectory of their future.

On Tuesday, DiDonato illustrated her version of events with a trio of Instagram images. The first slide featured a picture from a snowy photo shoot in which she peered off into the distance, looking away from the photographer. “In 2011 you’ll get booked to shoot the cover of Vogue Australia in Colorado, your flight will get canceled because of the weather,” she wrote atop the image.

Meanwhile, the next slide featured a video of DiDonato and her now husband, Kyle Peterson, laughing and chatting on an airplane. “You will be rebooked on a United flight and seated next to a stranger who coincidentally lives a block from you in NYC,” the text continued.

“It’s very important you get on that flight,” the overlay concluded on the third slide, atop a picture of DiDionato and Peterson locking lips at the altar on their wedding day in 2018. Following their nuptials, the couple welcomed their daughter, Teddy, in November of 2021 and their son, Oliver, in April of 2023.

“Have I told this story before? @united,” DiDonato questioned in the caption of her post, which quickly racked up more than 16,000 likes in less than 24 hours.

The airline chimed in to the comments section, writing, “A love story we always love to see!” while fans also couldn’t get enough of the romantic story.

“I love this so much,” one user cheered. “Can this be my story???!! 😂🙏🏼.”

“That’s amazing 💙 everything happening for a reason🫶,” someone else noted.

“I love this story every time!” fellow model Gigi Hadid added.
