Sue Bird Set the Record Straight: She and Megan Rapinoe Did Not Get Married This Week
Retired professional athletes Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe had fans ecstatic over the weekend when they dropped adorable, silly pics of them dressed in their best wedding attire. Fans mistook the pics, that both the WNBA champ and NWSL star posted, to be photos from their own ceremony.
The couple, who met at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, got engaged in 2020.
“PSA: Megan & I did NOT get married,” 43-year-old Bird clarified on her Instagram story the next day, after tons of fans sent them well wishes and congratulatory messages in their comment sections.
“Sue-ted & Booted,” the Seattle Storm player, 13-time WNBA All-Star and five-time Olympic gold medalist captioned her post, while Rapinoe, who played for OL Reign and the USWNT, wrote “she’s sueted…I’m booted…they’re married…❤️ wales will never be the same 🏴,” under her own carousel.
It’s a simple mistake that thousands of followers made, and we totally understand why.
Bird rocked a fitted white blazer with black dress pants and pearl hair clips, while Rapinoe donned a black blazer dress with sheer black lace tights, and, of course her ankle boot. The two-time World Cup champion injured her right leg while playing soccer last month.
The power couple, who run production company A Touch More together, were actually attending the wedding of soccer players Jess Fishlock and Tziarra King in Wales. Rapinoe, 38, who announced her retirement earlier this year, shared a fun personality pic of her and the newly married couple on Dec. 13.
“This really sums it up. Congratulations to the two most beautiful brides I ever did see. To a long life and long love. May you always have this much fun❤️ Thank you for a beautiful few days ✨,” Rapinoe wrote.
