Sydney Sweeney Speaks to Plastic Surgery Rumor Mill: ‘Everybody on Social Media Is Insane’

Sydney Sweeney is setting rumors straight. In a new video with Allure, the 28-year-old The Housemaid actress and her costar, Amanda Seyfried, took the publication’s “truth serum” and answered a slew of juicy questions during their time on set.
The duo began with a query read by Seyfried: “What is one beauty rumor about yourself that you want to debunk right now?” Sweeney emphatically responded, “What’s one beauty rumor?” adding, “Let’s debunk them all.”
For her answer, Sweeney opted to tackle any plastic surgery rumors, telling her 40-year-old cast mate, “I have never gotten a work done. I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.” Seyfried followed Sweeney’s admission with a piece of advice: “But it’s really effective once you get older, I’m telling you right now.”
However, Sweeney shot down the possibility, at least for now. “I am too scared of needles," the actress continued. “I just—you guys, you cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. Of course I’m gonna look different! Everybody on social media is insane.”
Shortly after the interview released, Sweeney addressed another social media stir: her controversial American Eagle campaign. The denim collaboration originally debuted in July and has amassed a slew of skepticism across the internet, with some users expressing that the “campaign promotes eugenics,” NPR reported in August.
Sweeney chatted with People about her partnership with the apparel company—who has since tapped Ananya Panday, Lakshya and Martha Stewart as their latest denim stars—and specifically delved into where she stands on the backlash surrounding the campaign.
“I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true,” the actress told the publication. “In the past, my stance has been to never respond to negative or positive press but recently I have come to realize that my silence regarding this issue has only widened the divide, not closed it.” She also told the outlet that she is “against hate and divisiveness.”
Following the campaign, Sweeney remained in the spotlight throughout the enitrety of the fall season, before her the release of her her film, Christy, on Nov. 7. Just over one month later, she’ll join Seyfried on screen—alongside Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Brandon Sklenar and more—in The Housemaid, based off of the 2022 Freida McFadden thriller of the same name. The movie makes its theater debut on Friday, Dec. 19.
