Simone Biles Gives Update on Potential 2028 Olympics Return: ‘We’ll See’

Nearly two years ago, in the summer of 2024, we witnessed Olympic gymnast Simone Biles add four more medals—three gold and one silver—to her immaculate collection, bringing her total count to a whopping 11. And, the 28-year-old, who is also the most decorated athlete in the sport’s history, could earn even more hardware when the next Olympic Games touch down in Los Angeles in 2028.
While Biles hasn’t officially stated whether she plans to participate in the global games at the time of publication, she gave Today an update on where she stands while attending the Milan Cortina Games earlier this week. When the topic of “going to L.A.” was brought up during the daytime interview, Biles kept her answer vague without shutting down the possibility entirely.
“I’m still on the health and wellness journey,” Biles said. “I mean, Laurent [Landi, USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame Coach] asks me all the time, and if I have to say anything, I’m just like, ‘Give me a little bit more time to recover, mentally, physically’, but he’s always like, ‘Okay, will you just give me two years?’. And so, I feel like we're coming up on that mark. We got a little bit more things to do, and then we’ll see.”
Following their conversation, Today posted Biles’s answer to Instagram, in a joint reel with NBC Olympics & Paralympics and NBCLA. Fans of the athlete quickly rushed to the post’s comment section to share their own speculations.
“Omg so exited there is still a chance ❤️,” one user commented.
“I think it would be very difficult to pass up on the opportunity to compete at a home Olympics. Would love to see her there!” Another chimed in.
“Imagine Simone closing a career by winning gold on home soil...” a commenter posed.
“Take your time Queen. ❤️,” a fan encouraged.
Even if Biles decides to sit out future competition, she’ll already have an illustrious Olympic résumé built by her trio of back-to-back-to-back appearances. During her first Olympic Games in 2016, she notched four gold and one bronze medal in Rio. In Tokyo for her sophomore stint, she added scored more—one silver and one bronze—before snagging her handful of accolades in Paris.
“I’ve accomplished way more than my wildest dreams, not just at this Olympics but in the sport,” Biles declared in 2024, per NPR. “A couple years ago, I didn’t think I’d be back here at an Olympic Games. So, competing and then walking away with four medals, I’m not mad about it. I’m pretty proud of myself.”
