Sydney Sweeney Puts Autumnal Twist on Timeless Trend for Night Out in New York

The actress has sported several fashion-forward looks while promoting ‘The Housemaid’ this month.

As the golden days of autumn give way to those chilly winter evenings, fashion fans have likely found themselves reaching for one staple piece in their closets: a gorgeous long coat. Sydney Sweeney knows this to be true, as the actress was spotted sporting the go-to piece while out and about in New York City this week—and she was also the latest celebrity to embrace a timeless styling trend.

Monochromatic magic

In several new snapshots captured of the actress, Sweeney could be seen in a marvelously monochromatic ensemble crafted in deep red wine shades. The night-out look was a textbook demonstration of layering done right, and also a perfect example of how to style a monochromatic outfit without making it feel monotonous.

For the ensemble, Sweeney wore a long wool coat in a deep burgundy over a slightly lighter maroon set, which featured wide-legged trousers and a high-neck top. Thanks to the shift in shades, the darker color of her coat helped the more vibrant base layer pop against the plush purple without muddying the overall aesthetic. She then accessorized the look further with a coordinating handbag and some dainty silver hoop earrings.

Her long blonde tresses were parted to the side and styled in loose curls, which sat effortlessly on her shoulders for a chic finishing touch. Her glam was hidden behind a pair of slick black sunglasses, but what could be seen of her makeup leaned into a neutral matte palette, complete with a pinky-nude shade on her lips.

As noted above, Sweeney is the latest celebrity to embrace monochromatic dressing this season, with multiple stars—including Angel Reese and Ellie Thumann—stepping out in their takes on the classic color trend this week alone. Still, Sweeney’s version added a fun autumnal twist thanks to the fall-friendly color palette.

A stylish press tour

And of course, this isn’t the only fashion-forward ‘fit the actress has sported this past month, as she has been walking red carpets across the country to promote her upcoming film The Housemaid. Most recently, she channeled Old Hollywood glamour in a gorgeous white gown from Miu Miu for the New York premiere of the film.

She also stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, where she showcased another holiday-ready ensemble in the form of a fitted silk red dress with a unique fabric detail around the hip for added texture. While on the late-night talk show, Sweeney chatted about the upcoming thriller and also revealed that she had wrapped shooting on the third season of HBO’s Euphoria.

The Housemaid will hit theaters on Dec. 19, while the third season of Euphoria received an official premiere window this week: new episodes will be available on HBO beginning in April 2026.
