Sydney Sweeney is taking control of the narrative, and she’s doing it in high style. The Euphoria and Christy star appeared on the cover of Variety this week, looking radiant as ever in a butter yellow satin gown from Victoria Beckham.
The daffodil-hued number was equal parts striking and soft, with gathered detailing, a plunging back and a fluid silhouette that hugged her figure and pooled at her feet.
She paired the look with sleek white Andrea Wazen strappy stilettos and delicate diamond rings by Anita Ko. Styled by Molly Dickson, the ensemble was finished off with Sweeney’s signature bombshell glam: glowy skin, feathered lashes and a perfect pinky-nude lip by makeup artist Melissa Hernandez, plus a voluminous long blowout courtesy of hairstylist Glen Oropeza—before she chopped her hair into a short bob earlier this week.
A woman in charge
In the cover story, Sweeney made it clear she’s no longer letting outside noise shape her image. “I just feel good and I’m doing it for myself,” she told Variety. “I hope I can inspire other women to be confident and flaunt what they’ve got, because you shouldn’t have to apologize or hide in any room.”
The 27-year-old opened up about the industry’s obsession with labeling her a sex symbol, as well as the pressures that come with being one of Hollywood’s most visible young stars. “People think they know me, but they don’t,” the Housemaid and Voyeurs star said. “Acting is my ring. It’s where I feel freedom. The set is where everything else goes quiet.”
Rising to the moment
Her upcoming film Christy, directed by David Michôd, is set to release Nov. 28 and is already garnering Oscar buzz. The movie follows real-life boxer Christy Martin, who fought her way through the male-dominated world of professional fighting while surviving horrific domestic abuse at the hands of her trainer and husband.
The Washington native has already secured the Hampton Film Achievement in Acting Award and the SCAD Savannah Film Festival Spotlight Award for her incredible performance in the biopic.
Sweeney trained for months, gaining over 30 pounds of muscle for the role—and told Vanity Fair that transforming her body to “lose myself to become a vessel for somebody else” has always been her dream as an actor.
The Laneige and Armani Beauty ambassador is also the cofounder of Fifty-Fifty Films, the production company behind her hits like Anyone But You, Immaculate and drama I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl still in pre-production.
