Alysa Liu Reveals How She Celebrated Olympic Gold in New ‘Teen Vogue’ Cover Story

If there’s anyone who deserves her time in the spotlight, it’s Alysa Liu. The professional figure skater is riding high on her gold medal victory at the Milan Cortina Games, which she secured during the women’s free skating event on Feb. 19.
Following her success at the Winter Games, Liu has recently been on a media tour, flashing her gold medal and smiley piercing on segments with TODAY and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Adding to her live television show appearances, Teen Vogue revealed earlier this morning that Liu is the cover star of the publication’s latest special issue.
In the accompanying feature story, the 20-year-old California native opened up about everything from her self-care routine to her unique sense of style. Liu also shared what she did to celebrate her Olympic gold medal victory, which is totally relatable: The athlete told the outlet that she “got some good Chinese food, of course,” with her friends.
She later added, “After I won, [there] was no sleep…. I went home and I literally did whatever I wanted for five days. I didn't have any media, and I had no commitments, so it was really great. I got to see a lot of my friends again, and just relax and catch up on sleep. I skated twice just because I wanted to.”
Liu’s story was shared to Instagram in a joint post between the professional athlete and publication early on Wednesday, March 4. Just an hour after it was posted to the app, the carousel of images, captured by photographer Erika Parente Long, had received more than 340,000 likes. Plenty of fans also chimed into the comments section to hype Liu up.
“the people’s princess 🥹💖,” one person wrote.
“The barrettes?! I know an ASMR girlie was involved in those,” another user added of Liu’s hair accessories in the cover image. She wore a collection of whimsical barrettes clipped into her signature halo locks, courtesy of hairstylist Kazu Katahira. Liu also collaborated with stylist Cece Liu for the feature, along with makeup artist Michaela Bosch and and nail artist Naomi Yasuda.
“OUR MAGICAL GIRL🥹 most magical shoot day of my life!!!!” Teen Vogue’s creative editorial director gushed.
“i love the third picture soo much,” another user noted, which featured a close-up of Liu grinning for the camera.
“y’all there’s more where this came from *~*~*~*watch this space*~*~*~*,” the official Teen Vogue account teased in the comments. Stay tuned!
