We Can’t Stop Giggling Over Lindsey Vonn’s ‘Celebration Gone Wrong’ After Her Latest Win

At this point, Lindsey Vonn should just change her home address to the World Cup podium, since that’s where the star skier has been spending most of her time anyway.
The ultimate comeback kid
Simply put, the decorated Olympian—who took home gold and bronze at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics before returning to win another bronze at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics—just keeps winning. Returning to the sport in 2024 after previously retiring due to an injury, Vonn has been collecting podium spots left and right ahead of the 2026 Winter Games.
In early December, she began her World Cup journey, racing in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and breaking records to become the “oldest winner” of the race at 41 years old. She won silver during the second downhill race that same weekend before going on to earn back-to-back third-place finishes during the World Cup’s stop in Val d’Isère, France, in both the downhill and the super-G.
And the skier is quickly proving that, while it may technically be a new year, she’s still the same athlete, as her 2026 already shaping up to be just as dominant as her 2025. Case in point, on Saturday, Jan. 17, the athlete returned to the slopes to win her fifth consecutive World Cup victory, once again securing a third-place spot on the podium, this time in Tarvisio, Italy—and even the Champagne was excited for her!
A Champagne celebration (gone humorously wrong)
In a short video clip shared with her 2.7 million Instagram followers on Saturday morning, Vonn celebrated her win on the podium alongside her fellow victors. The three athletes each held their own Champagne, taking a celebratory swig in unison from the luxe-looking bottles. However, it appeared Vonn’s drink got a little overzealous, with the bubbly beverage quickly flooding her mouth before all but exploding onto her racing gear and the snow.
As the bubbles died down, Vonn and her fellow victors erupted into a fit of laughter over the awkward moment, with the athlete writing in her post’s caption, “Champagne celebration gone wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣 guess I need more practice🤪 🍾🥉 💃🏼”
Fan reactions
Given the delightful relatability of this “celebration gone wrong” moment, many of Vonn’s fans were happy to hop in her comment section under the video to join in on the laughter, and also to applaud the athlete’s incredible journey back to the sport:
“😂😂😂,” the official Instagram account for Team USA simply wrote.
“Well that’s what you call Champagne 🍾 on ice 🧊 ! 😂. Keep going !” One commenter joked.
“Another day another podium! Well done!!! 🔥👏🔥,” another fan cheered.
“Never bring it down quick!” Vonn’s sister, Karin Kildow, instructed, giving the skier a quick Champagne-drinking tip. Vonn responded in agreement, penning, “rookie mistake!”
And Vonn will be able to test this tip tomorrow should she continue her podium streak with her next race, which takes place Sunday, Jan. 18.
