Madelyn Cline is over incessant comments about her body, especially from people who don’t have a clue what she’s up to in life.

Cline has been in the spotlight since rising to fame with the overnight success of the Netflix original series Outer Banks. On the show, her character Sarah Cameron is often seen wearing summer clothes, such as bathing suits, crop tops and shorts. Because of this, some have ridiculous expectations for her body to remain the same over the years. However, Cline implores the world to think otherwise.

“People love to pay attention to weight specifically. It’s very bizarre to me,” Cline told Allure for her July cover story. “From season to season on Outer Banks, my appearance has changed with lots of factors: stress, breakups, healthy or unhealthy habits with food. It’s normal life.”

In addition to the highs and lows of life, Cline also reminded readers that body changes can happen with something as simple as an alcoholic drink or a menstrual cycle. “But the camera, swear to God, picks up everything,” she added. “Like, damn. Can I not be on my period? Can I not have a beer the night before?”

Like any celebrity with a large following, fame can lead to negative experiences for Cline. While she has fans rooting for her, she also deals with trolls. As for her typical response to this, the 27-year-old actress does the smart thing: she turns off her phone.

“It’s important for me to remember that with my socials I’m incredibly blessed. But at the same time, sometimes it can get very loud, so I have to turn it off and listen to myself for a second and be present in the moment,” Cline told Glamour in 2022.

She added, “It's so nice to not be thinking ‘oh, I’m gonna take this picture to post.’ It’s so nice to just leave my phone somewhere for a few hours. But it’s also such a wonderful tool and I’m so thankful for it.”

Hopefully, Cline still uses the same solution to deal with haters today. If not, perhaps she’ll refer to her other go-to strategy for when things get out of hand.

“I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – sometimes at the end of the day, just pour a glass of wine,” Cline continued in 2022. “Talk to your friends, talk to your family and gratitude. Lots of gratitude.”

See Cline star in I Know What You Did Last Summer, out in theaters this Friday, July 18.
