Megan Thee Stallion is still healing after a difficult year. After testifying as a witness for the prosecution in a case against Tory Lanez in December, a jury found the rapper guilty on all charges of a 2020 incident in which the rapper shot Megan in the leg outside a Los Angeles party.

In a candid essay for Elle, the 28-year-old opened up about how she’s moving on and moving forward.

“These last few months, I’ve been healing after being in such a dark place,” she wrote. “The physical and mental scars from this entire ordeal will always sting, but I’m taking the appropriate steps to resume my life.”

Fans likely noticed that the Forbes cover model took a break from social media between late November of last year and March of this year. The “Savage” singer noted that she’s been spending a lot of time with her dogs and her manager while also dedicating time to prayer.

While she admitted that talking about the shooting is still very emotional, she said that her healing process remains ongoing.

“I’ve accepted this chapter of my life as part of my journey, but I will not allow it to define my journey,” the one-time SI Swimsuit model wrote. “I’ve been dragged through the mud, but I’m so happy that I’m able to finally come out of it with a new perspective.”

The Grammy Award-winning artist also addressed survivors of violence in her essay. “As long as you stand your ground and live in your truth, nobody can take your power,” she stated.
