Margaret Qualley has the internet talking after walking the red carpet for the world premiere of The Dog Stars at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on Thursday, Aug. 20.

While the 31-year-old actor dazzled in a black fringe Chanel dress, all eyes were on her feet, as Qualley stepped out in a pair of Chanel’s polarizing barefoot sandals.

The shoe, which debuted at the Chanel Cruise Show in France this spring and is designed by creative director Matthieu Blazy, consists of merely a black heel cap and a pair of string ties, leaving the majority of the foot exposed, making direct contact with the ground. The barely-there shoe has received plenty of critique since it was debuted in April, leaving many fashionistas puzzled—while others fully embrace the bold look.

Styled by Danielle Goldberg, Qualley put her best (bare)foot forward last night and definitely got people talking. While some folks praised the daring choice, others continue to be perplexed by the design of the shoe.

“I know [her] feet were absolutely dirty by the end of this 😂😂😂😂,” one person commented on Goldberg’s Instagram post of the designer look.

“the perfect subway shoe,” someone else quipped.

“Honestly the other stylist should be nervous! Danielle doesn’t miss!” one user retorted.

“Oh she looks incredible,” another comment read.

“It doesn’t make sense but also it makes so much sense,” an additional user stated.

“You won stylist of the year with this,” a follower declared.

After the barefoot sandals made their runway debut earlier this spring, content creator Remi Bader spoofed the look by hilariously recreating the shoe with cardboard and string before hoofing it around outside, getting a few curious looks from passerby. “Are we all.. okay????” she questioned in the caption of the Instagram reel at the time.

The bottom line? Love ‘em or hate ‘em, these unique and eye-catching shoes are definitely a conversation starter. And with Qualley’s sci-fi/action film, The Dog Stars, hitting theaters on Friday, Aug. 28, what better way to get people talking about your work? The movie, based on the novel of the same name by Peter Heller, costars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce and Allison Janney. The post-apocalyptic story follows Elordi’s character, Hig, after he survives a deadly flu pandemic.

Following the release of The Dog Stars, Qualley is also attached to forthcoming projects like Love of Your Life, Possession and Fred & Ginger. We can’t wait to see her next red carpet looks!
