Lindsey Vonn Details ‘Very Hard Reality’ of Her Injury Recovery in Latest Update

Beyond her numerous surgeries and physical rehabilitation required for Lindsey Vonn following her crash during the Milan Cortina Games in February—which resulted in a complex tibia fracture, she revealed that same month—the 41-year-old Alpine skier recently shared a difficult challenge she has faced recently in her recovery.
Vonn’s latest Instagram update
“Home sweet home,” Vonn penned to Instagram on March 1, alongside two frames of the athlete on her couch, snuggled up with her pup, Chance. “Feels good to sleep in my own bed… but wheeling through the front door without Leo greeting me like always was a very hard reality. A reality I had to face. Along with many other hard realities that lay in front of me as I move forward…”
On Feb. 18, just 10 days after her Feb. 8 crash during the Winter Games, Vonn disclosed to her 3.6 million followers on the app that her 13-year-old dog, Leo, passed away on Feb. 9. As part of her note underneath the 20-slide tribute, she declared, “This has been an incredibly hard few days. Probably the hardest of my life.”
In her most-recent update, Vonn’s caption also pivoted into her mentality at the current stage of her recovery. Following her crash in early February, the Olympian has remained steadfast in keeping her audience in the loop, ranging from her immediate surgeries overseas in Italy to her journey back home to the United States and her recent hospital discharge.
She further explained in the March 1 note, “I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy. It’s going to be a hard and painful journey but I am putting all of my energy into it, like I always do. I’m going to take some time for myself. I’ll give you updates when I can but right now my focus is on taking care of myself.” Vonn then concluded her message by expressing her gratitude to her fans “for the love and support” before adding a pair of emojis.
Fans rally around the athlete
As always, Vonn’s dedicated social media following is composed of friends, family and fans who are in her corner.
“Take your time ❤️ We are with you ❤️,” one user penned.
“Sending healthy healing vibes 🙏❤️🙏❤️,” an additional follower added.
Another fan stated, “You inspire me in so many ways. Thank you. Continue to focus and heal. Day by day ❤️❤️.”
